Ripping Rose Buds

I think I've ripped more than I've stitched.  Here's a successful square, and...
...a  not-so-successful square.    I've made 10 squares, and two practices squares (future Horrible Hot Pads), so you'd think I'd catch on.  Pictured here is the joint that's making me crazy.  I tried cutting the background pieces with rounded points, as depicted in EQ6.  Then tried cutting them and pre-trimming as recommended by Judy Martin.  Got the best results when I added extra width to the outer pieces, which I trimmed down later. Hmmm...Is there a secret to working with 45 degree angles, that I don't know about?

This is such a beautiful pattern!
I always have trouble with odd angles! ♥

Wow, you certainly do challenge yourself. I think you are much braver than I am. :) Sorry, I am not much help with the angles.

I'd say cut them large and trim if they are a continuous problem.
