I accidentally approved a message that should have been deleted. The Comment Moderation tab tells me that I have no unmoderated comments, and the Dashboard doesn't seem to let me modify comments, only the post itself.

Hmmm. Wordpress lets us "Unapprove" and edit comments.
You have to go to the actual comment on the dashboard page though and hover over the comment area to see the options. Good luck with that!
When you are signed in, can't you delete any comment that is on your blog? I think it will still leave the "commenter" name though.
I don't approve comments before they go up, so maybe this isn't the same for you? Good luck! So much to learn!
