From Chaos...

...shall come order.  This baby quilt is being made for a great-grandmother to give to her future great granddaughter.  The baby is due in December.  I have trillions of triangles to cut, but hope to have a couple sample squares to show you soon! :) 

Baby Girl Quilt

A friend asked that I make a baby quilt for his future grandchild. The doc says its a girl, so pink it is.  They want a traditional country look.  I gave them some quilt pics to look over.  I think the one they selected looked something like this.  I've always wanted to do a quilt in 1930s reproduction fabrics - so that's what I'm going to suggest.  This means, of course, that I have an incentive to finish quilting the border on my current project! 

Jungle Babies Quilt

I learned Baby Malcomb was on-the-way just 6 weeks before the due date.  Needed a simple design to meet the deadline.  Fell in love with this Jungle Babies fabric.  Used cotton for the top, fleece for the back.  Got it done in 4 weeks.  Then I got THE call...

Malcomb's Mama went to the hospital twice.  TWICE she was told "you're not ready - go back home."  A couple hours later, Malcomb was delivered at HOME, by his (terrified) GRANDMA - before 911 responders could even get to the house.  The 911 dispatcher told Grandma what to do over the phone.   Fortunatley, Mama and Baby were fine.  But poor Grandma was pretty frazzled!

Here's the cause of all the fuss.  He's a cute little peanut!

Noah's Ark Quilt Finished

Noah and the critters have set sail!  I'm happy with how the scalloped blue border adds to the feeling of being on the water.  I hope you can see the wavy quilting.

Unlike Noah, the Good Lord didn't clue me in on how many cubits to make the waves or scallops, so I winged it.  In retrospect, the size of the waves is out of scale with the size of the ark.  Sure hope Noah remembered to bring some Dramamine!


Below is a close up of the fabrics.  The depictions of the animals are really cute.  Mrs. Pig is wearing a straw hat with a flower, and I love the cats.  To my friend who suggested an angel theme for this quilt, you'll see there's even an angel in the sky.  Very sweet.

To anyone attempting to do scallops for the first time, I recommend using spray starch (which I did not do).  My marking template for the waves was a coffee cup and the template for the scalloped border was a sauce dish.  I love it when every day items can multi-task!

Well, I have a UFO to complete, then back to uber-quilting Christmas gifts.  I went gonzo at a 60% off sale at the fabric shop, so you'll be seeing more projects soon.

Different Border, Different Quilt

Oh my gosh!  I put on the blue border and it looks like whole different quilt.  MUCH better!

Noah's Ark Quilt

Last night I dug deeper into my stash and found these Noah's Ark prints.  The outer border in the picture is laid out for effect.  I'm not sure I like it enough to sew it on.  I'm also toying with the idea of doing a royal blue solid with a scalloped edge to emulate water.

As much as I love novelty prints for kid quilts, they do get rather busy. 
Will have to sleep on this decision. 

I don't know anyone who is expecting a baby...so I think this little quilt may have solved my dilemma for the upcoming silent auction at work
